I don’t think I’ve been this passionate about a project in a while. I really can’t wait to see where this one goes.
I’ve spent all week preparing everything in order to actually put my video for my final project together. I plan to make it a multi-medium piece with design, photography, videography/editing, and audio blended together.
If you haven’t watched my video “What I Would Have Missed” I highly suggest viewing it. It inspired this final project. That view displays probably the most important chapter in my story. The chapter after, I learned that the little things in life is what makes it all worth it.
So, for my final project, I’m showing off the little things in life that saved me.
But, if you’ve followed me up until this point, you know that I love to show how those around me influence my life. I don’t wanna brag (jk yes I do), but I have the best friends on the face of the planet. They inspire me everyday to be my best self. They show me who I want to be. They are my story, and I’m telling it.
It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t get them to be a part of this project.
So, I got them all to write down on green paper an answer to the question: “What is a little thing in life that makes it worth living?”
I plan to then green screen their answers throughout my video. I considered just typing up their responses, but when considering the design I want to be displayed through the piece, I want it to be personal. I want a piece of them in it.
Obviously, I will be including my own answers, in my hand writing, as well.
This week I’ve had a camera in my hand most days. Honestly, I hadn’t gotten my last piece of footage until about an hour ago. Planning the design behind my shots has probably been my favorite part. I’ve been in isolation this week because of COVID, so the cinematic shots I’ve been able to capture, I’ve had to capture on my own. Hence, if I’m in them, I had to get creative with how to set up the camera.
Outside of the footage I have captured, I’ve also gone through all of my old footage from my junior year of high school forward (this took probably 12 hours… I wish I was lying) to pick out my favorites that I plan on using.
I then sorted through photos/took photos and printed them out in black and white. I intend to use these on a green screen as well and create some sort of stop motion/transitions throughout my work.
Let’s back track a little bit…
I sent out a google form to my friends to submit their answers a few weeks ago so I could know what I was working with and not have to collect footage suddenly and be overwhelmed.
So I’ve had a list accumulating in my phone for the past few weeks, but this week I sat down and actually typed up an outline for my work.
The order of everything is still subject to change, and the words I may rephrase, but this is the general outline I’ve got going.
I’ve made videos my whole life, and I usually just dive head first in. This is the first time I’ve actually sat down and planned beforehand. I mean I’ve been planning this since the first week of class in my head, and explored routes I could take, but I don’t think I was initially intending to actually outline it and not go in blindly.
The outline only makes me more excited.
I’ve had my heart set on putting this together to the song “My Tears are Becoming a Sea” by M83. The song is cinematic and beautiful. It makes me feel something every time. But, I have had a lot of time this week to listen to music and I’m also considering “Till Forever Falls Apart” by Ashe and FINNEAS, “All We Ever Knew” by The Head And The Heart, and “Cinema – Acoustic” by Gary Go.
My editing process usually includes me starting, finishing, deciding I hate it, and making the video I actually like.
So because of that, I’m kind of expecting me to change my mind throughout all of this. For now, I’m planning on editing to “My Tears are Becoming a Sea”; however, I would not be surprised if there is a different song in the final project.
All in all, I’m planning on my video (thumbnail included) to fill the “30 star requirement” with the use of mixing the audio of music and my footage, photography included, design (with the green screens/overlays, camera placement in cinematography, thumbnail, etc.), videography, and editing.
I can’t wait to finish this final project because I think it’s going to be the best thing I’ve ever made. However, I’m not ready for this class to end. It’s given me an excuse to do what I love for homework, and I’m not sure if I’m ready to give that up quite yet.
