Who Inspires Me the Most?

I’m not even going to lie, coming up with who to write about for this assignment was A LOT harder than I thought it would be. Not because I couldn’t think of someone who inspires me, but because I couldn’t just think of one person. So I’ve decided to write about all the people who have inspired me the most since coming to college.

Tyler Michael

Tyler is the most confident person I know. We became friends because he kinda forced a friendship with me in my FSEM Zoom, but I am forever grateful for it. When I first met him, I tended to be shy with new people, but he taught me how amazing things can be if you step into any situation with an open heart. Tyler cares about everyone around him and will do anything for those important to him. He inspires me to unapologetically be myself, step outside my comfort zone, and always be there for my friends.

Like Tyler, I met AMC over my FSEM Zoom. However, when Tyler was jokingly picking on me–when he assumed we were besties even though I barely knew him–AMC snapped back at him, resulting in me DMing her on Instagram asking to be friends. AMC is incredibly sure of herself and is probably the hardest working person I know. I don’t think I have ever seen her do something not to her full potential. Her dedication to her friendships, herself, and everything she’s passionate about inspires me to give everything all that I got.

Maria Schneider

Well Maria… my Maria… is probably the best roommate anyone could have ever asked for. She puts so much thought behind everything that she says and is extremely well spoken. On top of that, I don’t think I have ever seen her take a day off from achieving her goals (even though through the process there are in fact a lot of naps). Maria always pushes herself to be the best possible version of herself that she can be, while simultaneously caring with her whole heart for those around her. If I ever need someone to listen, she is always there (no matter how much chemistry homework she has to do). She inspires me everyday to always show up for those that matter and never give up on myself.

Nathan Terrell

Where do I start? If I’m being honest, Nathan didn’t really get to choose to be friends with me. If anything, I forced a friendship onto him. However, I am fully convinced he is the quietest, yet most entertaining person I know. He always knows how to make a quick joke with his one-liners. Nathan is almost always doing homework (but probably procrastinating it and watching golf even though he says he’s doing it). But that isn’t what inspires me the most about him. Nathan does not let anything get in the way of his goals. I have never seen someone love something the way he loves soccer. He inspires me to never let any of the time I have playing the sport I love go to waste, and it is because of him that I push myself to hit my full athletic potential.

Peyton Garst

Peyton is probably the most down to Earth person I know. He is fully welcoming to everyone (even though he may be a little shy at first) and will always be there if I need him. He is one of the greatest listeners and best advice givers I know. I know no matter what he will always give me his 100% true opinion on something and he will always be there, no matter the day or time. Peyton inspires me to always be welcoming to new people and always pull through for my friends.

Christopher Sullivan

If I’m being honest, Chris scared me when I first met him. He has a very hard exterior, but once you get to know him he is one of the most caring people you will ever meet. He treats those important to him like family and will sacrifice anything for them. Chris inspires me to love those around me hard–even if I’ve been hurt–and to always be open to new people.

Sterling Colgan

My first words to Sterling were, “Do you wanna be friends?” and I am incredibly grateful for them. Sterling is one of the funniest people I know and I can always look forward to a laugh when I’m around him. His sense of humor and energy makes me feel like I’m a little kid just appreciating the little things in life. Sterling is always challenging me to step outside my comfort zone and take a leap into the unknown. He will always inspire me to spread laughter and joy wherever I go.

Ethan Mollman

Just like Sterling, my first words to Ethan were, “Do you wanna be friends?” My friendship with Ethan is probably one of the most rewarding ones I have. He reminds me a lot of my brother, and I am forever grateful for him playing that role in my life. I think my favorite part about Ethan is his ability to joke around with me like we are siblings. I have never seen anyone care about his friends the way he does. He always is there for me whenever I need him, and I don’t even need to ask. Ethan inspires me to look for family in places I didn’t think I would find it.

Julian Schmugge

I didn’t think me and Julian were actually friends until a couple days ago. I just kind of assumed that he was only friends with me because he had to be (because all of his friends are my friends). But, a couple days ago he did in fact confirm we are homies. I think what inspires me the most about Julian is that he always shows up no matter what. To my knowledge, he doesn’t exactly voice his appreciation for those around him, but his actions show how much he really does care about his friends.

Dmitri Jordan

Finally, we have Dmitri Jordan. I didn’t initially think that my friendship with Dmitri would have such a big impact on me; however, if anything he is like the older brother I never had. Dmitri inspires me to live life with spontaneity and truly live every second to the fullest. He cares about his friends with every ounce of his being and will drop everything if one of them is in need. Don’t get me wrong, when you first meet him he does have the “tough guy” exterior; however, he still will go any distance for the ones he cares for. Dmitri inspires me to never give up on those around me.
